Description

We will hike a few miles of the 18.5 miles of trails open to walking, all-terrain biking, horseback riding, and cross-country skiing. Our walk takes us through the old growth forest and along the Bushkill Creek in this 1,168-acre state park that contains Henrys’ Woods. To improve the stream’s health, Wildlands Conservancy has removed a few very low dams on the Bushkill. The Jacobsburg Historical Society has exhibits and demonstrations of early gun making, and operates the Pennsylvania Long Rifle Heritage Museum on site. Also, the Historical Society offers a wide range of exciting historical programs throughout the year, including mid-1840s rendezvous, encampments, and historical crafts. This hike is appropriate for children of all ages. Dogs on leash are welcome. Wear sturdy shoes and bring walking stick/hiking poles. Bring binoculars/cameras to capture the beauty of autumn at Jacobsburg. Bathrooms are available across the Bushkill Creek from the parking lot, and in the lobby of the Environmental Education Building. DIRECTIONS: From Route 22 take Route 33 north for 7.6 miles to the Belfast Exit. At foot of exit ramp turn right onto Henry Road for 0.1 miles and make sharp left onto Belfast Road. Continue on Belfast Road 0.7 miles to the Jacobsburg State Park parking area on your left. Additional parking is available 0.1 mile up the road on your left at the Jacobsburg Environmental Education Center. A path connects the two parking lots.
